German Environmental Zones 

Since 1. January 2008 all cars, passing through the center of Berlin,
will need an Environment-Badge.

The environmental zone is the area within the suburban rail ring.
Only vehicles meeting certain exhaust gas standards are allowed within the area.

Vehicles with particularly high emission levels have to stay outside or pay a fine of 40,- € .

For 5-15 € you can buy the german "Umweltplakette" or so called "Feinstaubplakette" for your car online (e.g. www.umwelt-plakette.de/sprachauswahl_foreignshop.php).

Already exsisting zones are in:   Berlin, Dortmund, Hanover, Köln

Future zones will be in:   Augsburg, Freiburg, Heidelberg, Ilsfeld, Karlsruhe, Leonberg, Ludwigsburg, Mannheim, Mühlacker, München, Neu-Ulm, Pforzheim, Pleidelsheim, Reutlingen, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Stuttgart and Tübingen.
